Pretty neat to visit the base of a volcano where you can still see (cooled) lava. Of note: the mostly direct trail in is in full sun much of the time - very hot. The map was not to scale or accurate.…Full review by tempexplorer

I am going to be in La fortuna in july and was wanting to go to the arenal national park without a guide. I will be staying at The Springs Resort and Spa. What is the easiest way to get to the park. I am not planning on renting a car. Also is there uber there or just taxis ?

As far as the walking the park without a guide, its very simple, we didnt have a guide either. From The Springs Resort and Spa to the entrance is about a 25 minute drive. I did see a few …

As far as the walking the park without a guide, its very simple, we didnt have a guide either. From The Springs Resort and Spa to the entrance is about a 25 minute drive. I did see a few Ubers in Lafortuna but im not sure how common they really are, i saw them down town. While you are at Arenal National Park, i would recommend the Arenal Observatory Lodge hiking trails. These trails are at the entrance of the Observatory Lodge hotel but i actually enjoyed them more then the National Park. There are multiple trails in all different variety..when you first go in they are paved side walks but then it turns into dirt trails everywhere else. Theres also a tall viewing platforms where you get really good views of the volcano, unique rainbow eucalyptus trees (google them! they arent painted) & waterfalls.

I didn’t use a guide. Went by myself. Given the amount of noisy people on the trail there should be no issues with wildlife that big.

there are no activities inside the park except a hike to the base of the volcano so no extra costs inside
