We went to the komodo island as part of our boat cruise from Flores to Lombok. When arriving on the jetty it already felt a bit off, this feeling unfortunately became a reality. We were told the dr… Full review by 827maximg

We all loved the experience. Too many people, though but we had a chance to see two active dragons, one pretty sedated (just guessing) and a little one by the rocks nearby the beach. Full review by Happiness60290815521

Accessible by boat, we were fortunate to see a couple of dragons when we visited. Our tour guide was knowledgeable as we walked around the island (3 options for walking, short 40 mins, medium 1 hour … Full review by wee_lassy_big_world
Hi there .... can you make your own way to the Dragon park (say by taxi) and then buy a guided walk ticket from there (as opposed to paying $120 for the organised tour from the cruise ship) ???

A ship will be docked in the waters around Komodo Island. It is not docked at the pier(the pier is too small for a cruise ship). Access to Komodo Island is restricted. Based on our experience, Viking would not let us tender to the Island unless you were on an excursion(which was included). You need to check with your cruise line's policy. Also note due to issues with poaching, Komodo Island will be closed to tourism starting in 2020(there were several articles in April regarding this, just Goggle).
We are on a cruise ship going to Komodo Island and believe we must book a tour to be able to leave the ship and see the dragons. The ship tour says high level of fitness and 1 hour of walking. Can anyone please tell me is this a flat stroll or hoofing it up a hill? Roughly how many km are covered? Is it easy or hard walking? Any info would be appreciated (we have a young child and unfit adults)

Oh,and make sure you stay with your guides and do not get separated from the group. The dragons are venomous carnivores. They do not hunt in packs, but if one of them wounds a prey, a group will aggressively join the killing feast. Our guides took us out in the early morning when the Komodos are a little sluggish, but they can still move rather quickly, especially the younger ones. One guide led our group -- about 10 people -- while the other guide brought up the rear.
