A long-time Democrat is parting ways with his political party as he makes his bid for Michigan’s governor. Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan said he will run as an Independent in 2026. The announcement came as a surprise for some but others wonder if we could see more candidates avoiding party affiliation.

"It's clear to me that there are a lot of people in this country who are tired of both parties and tired of the system," Duggan said.
