Red Sea Governor Amr Hanafi said Monday that the tourist yacht, which sank south of Marsa Alam, went down after being hit by a sudden and high sea wave, causing it to capsize within 5-7 minutes.

A tourist boat called the Sea Story sank in the Red Sea on Monday near the resort town of Marsa Alam. Sixteen people are missing, including twelve foreign nationals.

Back in August, weather was also partly to blame for the sinking of another luxury ship, the 184-foot-long Bayesian superyacht that capsized after getting caught in violent storms off the coast of Sicily. A total of seven people were killed in that incident, including British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch.

The boat set sail on Sunday despite warnings from the Egyptian Meteorological Authority about large waves on the Red Sea.
