The Army ’s handling of a 19-year-old soldier’s complaint of sexual harassment by a senior colleague played a part in her death, a coroner has ruled. Jaysley Beck took her own life at Larkhill Camp in Wiltshire on December 15 2021 and in July that year she complained that she had been sexually assaulted during a stay at Thorney Island.

The Army’s failure to properly investigate complaints of abuse contributed to the suicide of a teenage soldier who died in her room at a base, a coroner has ruled. Royal Artillery Gunner Jaysley Beck was found hanged at Larkhill Camp in Wiltshire on December 15 2021.

The mother of a 19-year-old soldier who died by suicide in her barracks have said, "No apology will bring our daughter back" after a coroner found that Army failure had contributed to her death. Coroner Nicholas Rheinberg spoke of failure on behalf of the Army to take action in relation to the harassment that Jaysley was suffering at the hands of her line manager.
