Bellaire High School Principal Michael Niggli reminded students that making false claims, threats and hoaxes are violations of the Student Code of Conduct, following HISD police chief Shamara Garner's Tuesday warning that police will investigate threats seeking criminal prosecution.

Bellaire High School has been placed in secure mode after a bomb threat was made during the school day Wednesday.

Police responded to Bellaire High School for a reported bomb threat, the school's principal Michael Niggli wrote to parents. "I want to inform you that at approximately 12:15 pm our school was placed in secure mode while HISD Police investigate a bomb threat that was made to our campus,

Bellaire Public Schools is seeking $2.5 million for safety improvements and building maintenance, investments officials say will reduce the need for large requests in the future. Superintendent Julie Brown says the funding would allow the district to create a secure entrance to the elementary school, among other facility improvements.

Under Texas law, threatening a school is a felony offense, even if it isn’t acted upon. According to a release from the Texas Department of Public Safety, students who make threats to a school can be arrested, have a permanent criminal record, face heavy fines, and possibly go to jail.

The Eagle County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a reported bomb threat at Battle Mountain High School on Wednesday.

In a message sent to parents, Principal Vincent Hall said a former student attempted to visit a staff member and was denied due to "unusual behavior."
