Campbell, 27, appeared in eight games for the Red Sox in 2024 after Boston acquired him in a trade with the Seattle Mariners for Luis Urias. In those eight outings, he recorded an abysmal 16.20 ERA, 2.40 WHIP and an 8.1 K/9 over 6 2/3 innings.

Campbell and Mata have both re-signed with the Red Sox on minor league deals, sources said late Friday, after being designated for assignment and subsequently non-tendered by the club. Both players are no longer on the 40-man roster. They’ll be in major league spring training as non-roster invitees.

While several MLB teams cut players loose on Friday, the 8 p.m. ET non-tender deadline came and went with little fanfare for the Red Sox. Former top pitching prospect Bryan Mata was the exception.
