UEFA has opened an investigation into suspended referee David Coote after a video published by The Sun allegedly showed him snorting a white powder while on duty at Euro 2024.

Coote has been suspended after footage appearing to show him voicing criticism of former Jurgen Klopp spread on social media.

PGMOL, the refereeing body for English football, has said that the investigation into Premier League referee David Coote is continuing and he remains suspended pending the outcome of the disciplinary process.

The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) has no plans to introduce drug testing for referees despite the ongoing investigation into David Coote, the Telegraph reports. The 42-year-old referee was suspended last week after a video surfaced allegedly showing him snorting a white powder believed to be cocaine.

An English Premier League referee has been suspended after a video on social media appeared to show him making derogatory remarks about former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

David Coote oversaw several English Football League Championship games for eight years before becoming a Premier League referee in 2018. He had a number of run-ins with Klopp during the German's time as Liverpool manager. Klopp stepped down as the Reds boss at the end of season.

That concerned referee David Coote, who was suspended earlier this month after a video appearing to show him making derogatory comments about Premier League side Liverpool and the club’s former manager Jurgen Klopp circulated throughout social media.

Refereeing body PGMOL says that David Coote's "welfare" is "important" as an investigation into the match official's conduct continues.
