The Houston Rockets have made one of the biggest moves of the offseason, and free agency hasn't even started. The team has signed veteran center Steven Adams to a new three-year, $39 million contract extension to keep him off the open market.

There is "mutual interest" between the Houston Rockets and guard Fred VanVleet as the July 29 deadline nears for the franchise to make a decision on the $44.9 million team option it has for the 2025-26 season.

Given that context, it's hard to call the Rockets '24/25 season anything but a huge success for the franchise. Houston won 52 games, its highest single-season total since the James Harden years, and held the No. 2 seed in a competitive Western Conference for much of the season, including from March 19 onward.

ESPN's Shams Charania reported that the Rockets re-signed their center Steven Adams. Adams is a fan favorite, and Houston will be delighted to bring him back. Adams will be 32 next season, and just signed a three-year extension worth $39 million.

Reed Sheppard will begin his sophomore NBA campaign with a 2025 summer-league stint for the Rockets, per Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle.
