The Buffalo Sabres most controversial deal of the offseason was swaping restricted free agent winger JJ Peterka to the Utah Mammoth for defenseman Michael Kesselring and winger Josh Doan. The deal may have been spurred by a combination of factors on the part of Peterka and the club, but the swap thus far has benefited both clubs.

Buffalo, N.Y. • When the Buffalo Sabres traded JJ Peterka to the Utah Mammoth in June, they didn’t post any social media thank-yous or well-wishes to him on his way out. General manager Kevyn Adams barely said his name in the news conference after the trade.

Michael Kesselring and Josh Doan have had this one circled on their calendars – a reunion, of sorts, for the former Arizona draft picks, members of the inaugural Utah team and, now, key contributors on the 2025-26 Buffalo Sabres. The Sabres take on the Utah Mammoth on Tuesday at KeyBank Center.
