CAQM directs schools in Delhi-NCR to adopt hybrid learning for classes up to 12th standard as air pollution worsens.

The Commission of Air Quality Management (CAQM) has allowed schools in Delhi-NCR to follow a hybrid mode of classes. The order was issued hours after the Supreme Court asked the air quality panel to decide on resuming physical classes in schools.

In its November 25, 2024, order, the Supreme Court emphasised the adverse impact of continued restrictions on education, particularly for underprivileged students.

Supreme Court says that unless satisfied there is consistent decrease in AQI, it can’t order curbs below GRAP-3 or GRAP-2.

The Commission for Air Quality Management had asked Delhi-NCR schools to adopt a hybrid mode of teaching in view of air pollution.

At 6 am, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) recorded an AQI of Anand Vihar at 316, Ashok Vihar at 316, Bawana at 343, and Jahangirpuri at 330.

The panel noted that the primary schools in Delhi-NCR do not have capabilities or access to conducting classes purely in an online mode.

The CAQM noted that Delhi's primary schools lack resources for online classes, particularly affecting Classes 10 and 12. It directed state governments to implement hybrid learning for all up to grade 12.
