A top South Korean official says Russia has supplied air defense missile systems to North Korea in exchange for Pyongyang sending troops.

Pyongyang has long coveted an advanced air-defense system to guard against missiles and war planes from the United States and South Korea.

South Korea's national security adviser Shin Won-sik said Russia has provided North Korea with anti-air missiles and air defence equipment in return for sending troops to support Moscow in its war against Ukraine.
