UCHealth has settled a federal fraud case with the U.S. Department of Justice for $23 million after being accused of fraudulently billing Medicare and TRICARE for emergency care. UCHealth denies the allegations.

UCHealth has agreed to pay $23 million to resolve allegations of fraudulent billing associated with emergency department visits, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Colorado announced.

The payout resolves allegations that the health system used automatic coding for emergency department visits to fraudulently bill a pair of federal programs, Medicare and TRICARE.
