The Bharatiya Janata Party is leading in six of nine Uttar Pradesh Assembly seats for which bypolls were held this week, as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reasserts control over the state that is at the core of the BJP's Hindi voter base.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won seven of the nine assembly seats for which the bypolls were held on November 20. The NDA not only improved its tally over 2022, but also snatched seats like Kundarki and Katehari from the SP, besides increasing the winning margins on some and narrowing down the defeat gap on some others.

The BJP was leading in four seats while the Samajwadi Party was ahead in two of the nine Assembly seats for which bypolls were held, according to Election Commission trends on Saturday (November 23, 2024).

Uttar Pradesh BJP president Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary attributes the party's bypoll victory to public trust in PM Modi and CM Yogi's leadership. He highlights the win in Kundarki as a rejection of caste-based politics and a mandate for the BJP's development agenda.

In Uttar Pradesh bypolls, the BJP and RLD led in six of nine seats, while the Samajwadi Party led in three. The BJP had won most of these seats in 2022.

Jaipur: BJP, Congress and Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) candidates are leading on two seats each while an Independent was leading in Jhunjhunu in the counting of votes in the bypolls to seven assembly seats of Rajasthan.
