Florida’s new Everglades-based migrant detention center, nicknamed ‘Alligator Alcatraz’ has begun deportation flights under emergency powers. Gov. Ron DeSantis says 100 migrants have been deported so far.

With the peak of hurricane season only days away, Gov. Ron DeSantis defended his administration’s lack of a public hurricane evacuation plan for Alligator Alcatraz, the immigrant detention facility in the heart of the Everglades.

Gov. Ron DeSantis said “hundreds” held at the detention center have been transferred to deportation hubs elsewhere in the country.
