Avelo Airlines is closing its base at Wilmington International Airport and cutting service to 11 destinations from the airport, the airline announced Tuesday night.
As part of the restructuring, Avelo will narrow its operational focus around four bases, including Wilmington Airport near New Castle, Tweed New Haven Airport in Connecticut, Concord-Padgett Regional Airport in North Carolina, and Lakeland Linder International Airport in Florida. The airline also will open a base in McKinney, Texas, in late 2026.
The airline will do away with bases in Phoenix and Raleigh and Wilmington, N.C., and reorient its network around smaller and more modern Embraer planes.
Avelo Airlines says Wilmington Airport will serve as one of five hubs as they restructure their operations, but two new major destinations now appear to be in question.
As part of the restructuring, Avelo will close crew bases at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport in Arizona, and at Raleigh-Durham International Airport and Wilmington International Airport in North Carolina. The airline emphasized that it will continue serving Raleigh-Durham and Wilmington on a reduced basis from other cities in its network.
