Heavy rain, thunderstorms and potentially damaging winds are expected.
Many schools will be closed Friday due to the storm, including O‘ahu, Kaua‘i and Maui County public schools, and Hawaii State Department of Education offices.
Flash flooding is possible as a large, powerful Kona storm northeast of the Hawaiian Islands draws deep tropical moisture across the state. Persistent bands of heavy rain and thunderstorms may create intense rainfall, which may lead to large streams and flooding roads and low-lying areas.
Gov. Josh Green, along with state emergency management and public safety officials, announced plans and closures due to the severe weather impacting Hawaii.
Each of these troughs will have a negative tilt as they reach the islands, forcing pulses of heavy showers and thunderstorms to develop over the state as each trough passes over the Hawaii region. Although on a larger scale there will be brief down turns in the severity of the weather impacts from island to island between the passing upper level troughs.
Flash floods, tornadoes, and high-elevation snow are all possibilities with the same storm system striking one state this week.
