But South Africa celebrates 30 years of democracy this year and has, for all of its challenges, tried to embrace the mantra of the “rainbow nation” — a place of racial and ethnic diversity.

The victory, however, did not stop there. Cape Town, the crown jewel of South Africa, has also ultimately stepped into the spotlight by winning the highly coveted award of Best City in the World.

Cape Town, South Africa, has been chosen as the host city for WorldPride 2028. Th e event will mark the first time the global LGBTQIA+ celebration will take place in Africa.
