Here's what you need to know about whether U.S. stock markets will be open or closed on New Year's Day this year.

The New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq Stock Market will be open on New Year’s Eve and keep normal hours, with the regular session starting at 9:30 a.m. and ending at 4 p.m. Eastern. Over-the-counter markets will be open, too. Markets for U.S. bonds, however, will close early at 2 p.m. Eastern.

The New York Stock Exchange closed the week lower in the first session after the Christmas holiday break. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped slightly by 0.04%, or 20.19 points, to close at 48,710.97 points. The Nasdaq fell 0.09%, or 20.21 points, to 23,593.01, while the S&P 500 lost 0.03%, or 2.11 points, to 6,929.94.
