A winter weather advisory is issued by the National Weather Service when a low pressure system results in a mixture of winter weather ‒ such as snow, freezing rain or sleet – that can be hazardous. This combination does not meet the criteria of a warning.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch at 2 a.m. on Monday valid from Tuesday 10 a.m. until Thursday 10 a.m. for Siskiyou Mountains and Southern Oregon Cascades.

Today, Jan. 7, in Southern Colorado, temperatures will stay above normal, with most areas reaching the upper 50s and some spots climbing into the low 60s. Winds will be calmer than in recent days, with gusts mostly limited to higher terrain and the high country.

Update at 7:46 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, 2026: A winter storm warning is now in effect until 6 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 6) for the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, above 11,000 feet, as deep moisture being drawn up from the south ahead of a developing cold-core kona low is expected to produce periods of heavy snow and ice atop the Big Island volcanoes.

At 12:29 p.m. on Sunday, the National Weather Service released a winter storm watch valid from Tuesday 4 a.m. until Thursday 4 a.m. for North Oregon Cascades, Cascades of Marion and Linn counties and Cascades of Lane County.

On Saturday at 10:21 p.m. EST an updated winter storm watch was issued by the National Weather Service valid for Monday between 1 a.m. EST and 10 p.m. EST for Mason, Oceana, Muskegon, Ottawa, Kent, Allegan,

The watch was in place for Fayette Ridges. "The Winter Storm Watch has been replaced. Please see the latest information from NWS Pittsburgh PA on this developing situation," adds the National Weather Service.

At least six deaths have been blamed on that storm, including five in France. There was good news for some Berlin residents during the cold snap as power was being restored to thousands of households in the German capital that had been without electricity in freezing temperatures for four days.
