Severe flooding caused by days of torrential rain has forced over 122,000 people to evacuate their homes across Malaysia, with disaster officials confirming three fatalities. Authorities warn that the numbers could rise as heavy rain and storm warnings persist.

Malaysia's Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Friday barred his cabinet members from going on leave, after the displacement this week of more than 90,000 people in a growing flood disaster that officials fear could be country's worst in a decade.

The National Disaster Command Center online portal said Friday that 94,778 people, from more than 28,000 families, across nine states were evacuated to 527 temporary shelters. The northeastern state of Kelantan, bordering Thailand, was the worst affected, with 63,761 people evacuated from their homes, followed by neighboring Terengganu with 22,511.
