The chief operating officer of acclaimed chef Barbara Lynch's restaurant group said they are "blindsided" by a lawsuit filed by the City of Boston claiming the organization owes more than $1.6 million in taxes.

The suit comes in the wake of last month’s announcement that the celebrated-but-embattled chef would close all of her remaining restaurants.

The lawsuit, filed Wednesday in Suffolk Superior Court, claims Lynch failed to pay a "vast unpaid amount of taxes" across her seven Boston restaurants for more than a decade.
