The House voted overnight Thursday, after hours of delay, to advance President Trump's "big, beautiful bill" before a final vote, which is expected soon.

Brian Fitzpatrick, a Pennsylvania Republican who is one of the most moderate in his party, was a surprising 'no' vote against advancing the bill. Unlike other Republicans who have voted 'no' and are now being courted in person by House Republican leaders, Fitzpatrick raced off the floor and away from the chamber after he voted no.

The bill continues tax cuts from President Trump's first stint in the White House, funds his border wall plan, and increases defense spending. The associated fiscal impact of this is offset by reducing federal support for key components of the social safety net, including food assistance and health coverage programs.
