The Florida sheriff that President-elect Donald Trump nominated to be the administrator of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration has withdrawn his name from consideration.

Trump's pick of Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister for the post drew intense backlash from conservatives and supporters of the president-elect.

Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement that he decided to withdraw after "the gravity of this very important responsibility set in."
