A man has been arrested on charges of driving while ability impaired by drugs and alcohol after a chain-reaction Long Island Expressway crash sent four others to the hospital overnight. The incident occurred around 12:20 a.

Police say Matthew Sheehy was driving eastbound on the Long Island Expressway when he struck a disabled 2010 Chrysler Town and County parked on the right shoulder.

Sheehy, 46, of East Setauket, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for evaluation. Sheehy was arrested and charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and Alcohol. He will be arraigned on a later date.

Several emergency vehicles were observed at the scene.

Authorities say the vehicle was traveling eastbound around 5 a.m. when it left the roadway and crashed into trees and overturned near the Route 110 overpass.
