Mike Prendergast has revealed he has applied for the position of head coach with Munster with star winger Calvin Nash backing him to succeed in the role. The province has been on the look-out for a new coach since Graham Rowntree left my mutual consent at the end of October.

Munster attack coach Mike Prendergast has directly come out and stated his desire to become the next head coach of the province. The former scrum-half recently penned a new deal to tie himself down in his current role for a further two years.

Prendergast had been placed at the top of potential successors but this was the first indication the 47-year-old was interested in taking the step up to head coach.

Mike Prendergast has confirmed his interest in becoming head coach of Munster next season, as the province continue their search for Graham Rowntree's replacement.

The Limerick man has already extended his Munster contract.
