Rockefeller Center Christmas tree arrives in NYC — marking 93rd year of Big Apple’s most beloved tradition
The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree arrived in midtown overnight – marking the 93rd year of the city’s most beloved tradition. The 74-foot, 11-ton Norway Spruce was trucked in from West Stockbridge, Massachusetts. The tree is about 70 years old, and is the first Rockefeller Center tree from Massachusetts since 1959.

For the first time since 1959, this year's Rockefeller Center tree comes from Massachusetts - West Stockbridge, to be exact. It was a donation from Michael Albert and his family, who are residents of the town. As of this morning (Nov. 12), the tree was set into position, where it will soon be decorated for the holiday season.

The 74-foot Norway spruce was driven into Manhattan’s Center Plaza, where it was hoisted in place by a crane. It will take 5 miles (about 8 kilometers) of light strands with more than 50,000 multicolored LED bulbs to wrap the tree, whose diameter measures 43 feet (13 meters). A Swarovski star crown sparkling with 3 million crystals will top it.
