Pili, one of Hattiesburg Zoo's spotted hyenas, gave birth to two cubs a year after birth of first cub Kito.

The zoo said fighting between the pair intensified on Wednesday evening, and the second-born cub attained extensive wounds from which it did not recover.

Hyenas establish dominance early in life. With two cubs born at Hattiesburg Zoo, the larger was aggressive toward the smaller, inflicting mortal wounds.
