New Jersey Devils goaltender Jacob Markstrom will be out 4-6 weeks with a knee injury. The Swede was injured in a 5-1 win over the Bruins on Wednesday.

NEWARK—Even in their wins, the New Jersey Devils are suffering major losses. The Devils honored former Stanley Cup winning head coach Jacques Lemaire before puck drop with the Boston Bruins by admitting him into their Ring of Honor.

Dawson Mercer scored twice during New Jersey’s four-goal second period, and the Devils beat the Boston Bruins 5-1.

Morgan Geekie scored for the Bruins (23-20-6), who are 3-1-1 in their past five games. Jeremy Swayman allowed four goals on 29 shots in two periods. He was replaced by Joonas Korpisalo (five saves on six shots) at the start of the third period.

Following a disappointing 5-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday night, Boston Bruins defenseman Nikita Zadorov didn't mince words about his team's ongoing struggles.

Things came apart in a hurry in the middle frame. The Bruins didn’t react well to two calls against them that they didn’t like and the Devils took advantage delivering an early knockout blow. They became the latest struggling team to get right against Boston, beating the Bruins, 5-1, Wednesday at the Prudential Center in Newark.

Jacob Markstrom left Wednesday night's game against the Boston Bruins in the first period after Bruins Justin Brazeau crashed into Markstrom's net, sending the Devils goaltender awkwardly into his goal post. Head coach Sheldon Keefe announced that Markstrom "will miss some time," and they'll have a better idea of his status soon.

The diagnosis is more favorable than anticipated, but it adds insult to injury for a team that has struggled recently.

Markstrom’s injury also rules him out for Sweden’s roster in the 4 Nations Face-Off in February. According to Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli, Philadelphia Flyers netminder Sam Ersson is "expected to replace" the Devils goalie on Sweden's squad.

Boston led, 1-0, after the first period, but couldn’t overcome a miserable second in which the Devils scored four times.
