Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday that Russia's President Vladimir Putin is ready for talks with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky, however, "legal aspects related to his legitimacy" must be considered.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said he is willing to talk to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, Russian media reported on Tuesday, citing Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

The Kremlin said on Friday that there was a mutual understanding about the need for a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, but that the details of such an encounter had yet to be worked out.

The Kremlin said on Tuesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin was serious about negotiating a settlement to end the war in Ukraine as high-level talks began in Saudi Arabia, and that Russia would prefer to achieve all its aims peacefully.

U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday he expects to see his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Saudi Arabia for their first meeting since the Republican took office. Trump made the remarks following an almost 90-minute phone conversation with Putin in which the two leaders discussed ending Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
