Revival of a southern Amtrak route across Montana got a boost Wednesday when the Biden administration, awarded $500,000 to the Big Sky Passenger Rail Authority.

One of those new routes, according to Amtrak's Connect US map, would link Reading and Philadelphia by rail for the first time since SEPTA stopped running passenger trains in 1981.

Amtrak is warning of another round of job cuts as it pares back train service amid a stubbornly slow recovery and said it does not plan to ask Congress for enough money to preserve the jobs.

Passenger rail service between Reading and Philadelphia ended in 1981 and plans to bring it back have been a popular topic.
