The Grand Rapids Fire Department has broken ground on its first new fire station in 37 years. Tuesday, a ceremonial groundbreaking was held at the site of the Kendall Street Fire Station, which will be located at the intersection of Kalamazoo Avenue SE and Kendall Street in the city’s 3rd Ward.

This will be the city's first new fire station in 37 years, a much-needed investment for the city's Third Ward. It's expected to cut down on response times in emergencies.
