The IMD has issued a heavy rainfall alert for Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and south Interior Karnataka due to a low-pressure system over the southwest Bay of Bengal, expected to last until November 16.

In light of the heavy rain forecast, holiday has been declared for all schools in Chennai. Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin also inspected preparedness of the state.

Due to heavy rainfall and a yellow alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), schools in Chennai are closed on Tuesday. The IMD forecasts moderate to heavy rainfall in Chennai and surrounding districts until November 15,
