While the nation is anxiously waiting to see who will be the next president, Florida is watching six constitutional amendments.

Voters proved Tuesday night that Florida is increasingly a red state on most issues. But two left-leaning constitutional amendments received a majority of the votes, even though they will not become law.

Despite receiving a majority of "yes" votes, Florida's Amendment 3 failed to pass. Here's why, how state now compares to the rest of the country.

A 60% super-majority of votes is required to amend Florida's constitution. Amendment 3, which would have allowed recreational marijuana for adults 21 and older, fell short of that at 55.9%. “I'm a little surprised that it didn't pass. A little disappointed,” said Roger Brown, President of ACS Laboratory.

Now that the amendment has failed, here’s what to know about Amendment 3 and marijuana in Florida. Amendment 3 would have allowed adults 21 and older to buy and use up to three ounces of marijuana.

In Florida, constitutional amendments need at least 60% of the vote to be adopted. Amendment 3, which would have allowed people 21 and older to use marijuana without any medical reason, got about 56% of the vote.

Florida voters rejected a ballot measure that would have legalized recreational marijuana for adults at least 21 years old and allowed them to possess up to 3 ounces of marijuana.

Florida voters will weigh in Tuesday on whether marijuana should be legalized for recreational use in the Sunshine State. Amendment 3 was added to the ballot via a citizen ballot initiative, which amassed over one million verified signatures.
