The 3rd and 7th place finishers in the Kentucky Derby won't race in the next Triple Crown event, but do plan on running in the Belmont Stakes.

Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty will not compete in the 150th Preakness Stakes on May 17. Because of this decision, there will be no Triple Crown winner this year, but Sovereignty will prepare to run the Belmont Stakes in June.

Justify was the last Triple Crown winner, completing the rare feat for trainer Bob Baffert in 2018. American Pharoah became the first colt to capture the Triple Crown in 37 years when he won the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont Stakes for Baffert in 2015.
