Rapper Doechii exhibited rare courage at the BET Awards on Monday to condemn Donald Trump’s deployment of National Guard and Marines to Los Angeles to quell protests against his mass deportation agenda.

Grammy-winning artist Doechii accepted her first BET Award Monday. But as she held the award for best female hip-hop artist, she couldn’t ignore what was going on outside the televised show at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

The rap star used her acceptance speech to address protests against immigration raids in Los Angeles, to which Trump deployed National Guard troops on Monday.
