A Met Office amber warning is in place for parts of the Highlands, Aberdeenshire, Perth and Kinross and Angus. It runs from 07:00 to 17:00, when there will be an increased likelihood of severe weather affecting travel and power supplies.

A futher six yellow warnings for rain and wind are in place across the UK. The Met Office is calling Storm Bert a "multi-hazard weather event". Rail companies urged passengers to avoid travelling to certain areas, while a number of roads have been closed.

“Storm Bert marks a shift to much milder air and wintry hazards will gradually diminish through the weekend, but heavy snowfall is expected across parts of northern England and Scotland for a time on Saturday, especially over higher ground, and warnings are in place,” Met Office deputy chief meteorologist Dan Holley said.

These were scenes of flooding after firefighters were called to rescue people from a house following a landslide. A property was hit by flood water and debris and suffered "substantial" damage, North Wales Fire Service said.
