Powerball player misses historic $1.8B jackpot by 1 number — but doesn’t walk away empty-handed
A Powerball player in Virginia missed out on the colossal $1.817 billion jackpot by just one number, but still walked away with a modest $100,000 payout.
The Powerball winning numbers are in for the Wednesday, Dec. 31 drawing with a jackpot that reached an estimated $53.4 million ($20.7 million cash value). The largest winning Powerball jackpot ticket sold in Michigan was worth $842.4 million and sold in January 2024 at Food Castle in Grand Blanc.
A Powerball ticket came just one number short of the historic jackpot but still secured a large prize. There was one Powerball drawing during the holiday period that made everyone so excited. One of the participants came so close to claiming the massive $1.8 billion prize money.
In addition to her winnings, Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot stands at $105 million annuity or approximately $47.4 million in cash, with odds of winning set at 1 in 292 million. “I will make sure it gets used for good,” Campbell said, expressing her plans to contribute to local charities.
A Powerball lottery ticket worth $50,000 was purchased at a gas station along the Jersey Shore for Monday’s drawing. The winning ticket was sold at the Shell station on Main Street in Bradley Beach, Monmouth County, according to the New Jersey Lottery. It matched four numbers plus the Powerball.
