Southampton has been denied a priceless victory by a controversial VAR decision and ended up drawing with host Brighton 1-1 in the English Premier League.

Kaoru Mitoma put Brighton ahead in the first half but Southampton's Flynn Downes had an answer in the second half before a long VAR review became the story of that half.

Brighton take on Southampton on Friday, Nov. 29, at the Amex Stadium. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. GMT local time, making it a 3 p.m. ET or 12 p.m. PT start in the US and Canada, and a 7 a.m. AEDT kickoff in Australia in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Kaoru Mitoma's first-half header for Brighton & Hove Albion was cancelled out by a Flynn Downes strike just before the hour as the Seagulls drew 1-1 at home with bottom side Southampton on Friday to move up to second in the Premier League table.

Former Premier League referee Jeff Winter criticised the time it took for VAR to reach their “no goal” verdict during Brighton’s 1-1 draw against Southampton. Flynn Downes had just cancelled out Kaoru Mitoma’s opener when Cameron Archer converted a cross from Saints substitute Ryan Fraser.
