People in San Antonio planned a demonstration on Saturday to condemn President Trump’s military parade in Washington D.C., which is meant in part to mark the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army. The “No-Kings Nationwide Day of Defiance” protest is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. at Travis Park.

San Antonio Mayor-elect Gina Ortiz Jones joins The Weekend to discuss Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s decision to deploy Texas National Guard troops amid protests. She also talks about her priorities as Mayor of the country’s seventh-largest city.

Around 4:30 p.m., the Texas National Guard was seen arriving at Alamo Plaza. Earlier in the week, Gov. Greg Abbott announced he was sending more than 2,000 Texas DPS troopers and 5,000 Texas National Guard soldiers to cities around Texas to help local law enforcement amid the protests.
