The change means SEPTA Key cardholders and people who pay with credit and debit cards would no longer be charged $2 for a ride and instead pay the full fare of $2.50.

The Travel Wallet fare on subways, trolleys and buses will rise to $2.50, which is the same as the cash fare. Most single-trip fares on Regional Rail will also go up to make Travel Wallet and Quick Trip prices the same. SEPTA says the fare increases are expected to bring in nearly $14.5 million in annual revenue.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- SEPTA fares are going up on subways, trolleys, and buses, beginning on Sunday, Dec. 1. The board approved the 7.5 percent increase earlier this month, as the transit agency faces a massive $240 million budget deficit.

The 7.5% hike raises Travel Wallet transit fares from $2 to $2.50. Most single-trip fares on Regional Rail will increase as well. But all daily, weekly and monthly passes will stay the same price.

SEPTA's board, on Thursday afternoon, approved a proposal to increase base fares to $2.50 in December. Discussions on a more drastic fare increase for 2025 will be held next month.
