Empire Sports Media on MSNAfter retaining his BMF belt at UFC 318, what’s next for Max Holloway? In the main event this past Saturday night at UFC 318, the BMF title was on the line. Max Holloway (27-8) was looking to become the first man to defend the BMF belt while simultaneously playing the ultimate spoiler by defeating Dustin Poirier (30-10) in his retirement fight.
Following UFC 318, here is what I think should be next for the stars of the event in Max Holloway who defended his BMF belt.
Max Holloway defeated Dustin Poirier and produced another five-round war that is fitting of the belt that he currently holds. Having stopped ‘Blessed’ at UFC 308 last year, Topuria trolled Holloway on social media by claiming that the BMF belt is still his, posting a photo of his replica title.
Poirier (30-10 MMA, 22-9 UFC) didn't get his fairytale ending after losing a unanimous decision to Max Holloway (27-8 MMA, 23- 8 UFC) for the BMF title in Saturday's headliner at Smoothie King Center. However, that doesn't mean that Poirier isn't grateful for the experience of having his retirement fight in his home state of Louisiana.
Alexander Volkanovski was interested in how Max Holloway would bounce back from his first KO loss, and came away very impressed.
Holloway, a former Featherweight champion, is looking to bounce back after losing to Illia Topuria by knockout at UFC 208 last October. He won the BMF title at UFC 300, knocking out Justin Gaethje. He has a career record of 26-8, with 12 wins coming by knockout.
Sean O'Malley sees various options for BMF champion Max Holloway's next fight. Holloway (27-8 MMA, 23- 8 UFC) became the first fighter to retain the BMF belt when he outlasted the retiring Dustin Poirier in Saturday's UFC 318 headliner at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.
