The Federal Aviation Administration ( FAA) has decided against mandating changes to the software for the Boeing 737 MAX’s engine, the CFM International LEAP-1B, following internal discussions over two bird strike incidents involving Southwest Airlines 737 MAX 8s.

The FAA is considering new takeoff instructions for pilots of Boeing 737 Max jets to prevent smoke from entering the cabin if a bird flies into the engine.

Boeing’s (BA) long, difficult year kicked off with a 737 Max door plug blowout, and now a new part is drawing scrutiny from federal investigators.
