Sporting CP fans set off fireworks over Arsenal's penalty area in the first half of their Champions League encounter. The Gunners won the match 5-1.

Arsenal are now beyond the halfway stage of their Champions League league phase campaign, with a mixture of results so far. The new Champions League format has wreaked havoc early on, with surprises including PSG outside the qualification places and Real Madrid hovering dangerously close to falling out too.

The new format was supposed to lead to more exciting matches and qualification going down to the wire. And that will be the case for most teams, but Liverpool are making something of a mockery of the plan to entice viewers in to the bitter end of the league phase.
