New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy signed new legislation this week creating the option for digital driver's licenses and digital non-driver identification cards.

New Jersey joins 15 other jurisdictions across the US in moving to reduce the need for drivers to carry their physical licenses at all times. However, concrete details—such as whether you'll be able to add your digital license to Apple Wallet—are still unknown.

New Jersey citizens will now be able to flash their driver's license from their smartphones after Governor Phil Murphy signed a digital ID measure into law, joining the ranks of over a dozen other states to do so.
