Plot details haven’t been confirmed but “Shinobi” follows protagonist Joe Musashi as a modern-day ninja who confronts evil. It debuted in 1987 as an arcade game and has evolved into a franchise that spans 14 sequels with over five million copies sold to date.

Following the successful mining of the Sonic franchise, it's not surprising to see SEGA go back to the well. Hargrave gained renown in collaboration with the Russo brothers, serving as stunt director on major Marvel films and directing the Extraction series of Netflix films starring Chris Hemsworth.

A Shinobi movie is in the works as a collaboration between Sega and Universal, and it's being helmed by the director of Chris Hemsworth vehicle Extraction.
