Wednesday was another day of fall for benchmark stock indices Sensex and Nifty as US 10-year bond yields spiked and dollar hit four-month high against a basket of major currencies, ahead of US CPI inflation data later in the day.

Stock Market Today: 46 out of the 50 constituent stocks ended in the red, dragged down by Britannia, BEL, NTPC, Asian Paints, and HDFC Bank

The stock market is expected to trade in a narrow range today, following a positive opening signaled by GIFT Nifty. As of 8:00 am, GIFT Nifty was trading at 24,125, up by 0.03%.

After opening in green, the S P BSE Sensex reversed course, dragged down by banking, financial services, and auto stocks. The Nifty50, too, faced a broad-based decline, with nearly all sectoral indices closing in the red except for Nifty Realty.

Sun Pharma, Trent, HCL Tech, Infosys, and ONGC were among the top gainers on the Nifty index. Britannia Industries, HDFC Bank, NTPC, and Tata Motors were among the top losers.

Among sectors, all the sectoral indices ended in the red with auto, bank, capital goods, FMCG, metal, oil & gas, power, telecom, media, pharma down 0.5-2 percent.

Bank stocks HDFC Bank and State Bank of India contributed most to the Sensex fall. NTPC, Tata Motors and Bajaj Finance also contributed to the decline.

Indian benchmark equity indices BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 opened higher on Tuesday, amid strength in the US markets.
