Johnson’s producer Trent Willmon wasn't the only person to make a joke using Shaboozey's name during the 2024 CMA Awards in Nashville

Additionally, Shaboozey was just nominated for six Grammys including song of the year. And it initially appeared that the country music crowd had embraced him as well after he received CMA Awards nominations for new artist and song of the year.

Shortly after the 2024 CMA Awards ended, Shaboozey, whose real name is Collins Obinna Chibueze, appeared to respond to the joke. He shared a photo of himself sitting in a sprinter van wearing an all-black outfit with rings on his hands and a chain around his neck.

It wasn’t the only awkward moment of the night involving Shaboozey either. Earlier in the show, hosts Lainey Wilson, Luke Bryan and Peyton Manning delivered a half-assed tribute to Toby Keith, holding up red solo cups while reading a few words from a teleprompter before quickly using it to segue into an introduction to Shaboozey’s performance:

Shaboozey is taking things in stride after Wednesday night's (Nov. 20) CMA Awards - and following a curious comment from Cody Johnson's producer Trent Willmon. At the CMAs - which were held at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena - Shaboozey was nominated for new artist of the year and single of the year for "A Bar Song (Tipsy).

Shaboozey has spoken out after the 2024 Country Music Awards, during which many say he was snubbed and his name served as a running joke among fellow artists. Following a breakout year, Shaboozey was nominated for Best New Artist and Single of the Year at the 58th annual CMAs in Nashville on Wednesday (November 20).
