Akhil Gogoi is an Indian peasant leader, RTI activist, and Member of Assam Legislative Assembly from Sibsagar since 2021. He is also the founder and president of Raijor Dal since 2020. Over the years he has been leading many anti-graft movements in the state.

Jul 1, 2021 · Guwahati: Assam legislator Akhil Gogoi on Thursday walked free after more than a year-and-a-half in captivity as a special NIA court cleared him of all charges under UAPA for his alleged role in the violent anti-CAA stir in the state in December 2019.

Gogoi was accused by the state police of instigating the public to take up arms against the government at a rally held in Moran town near Dibrugarh on September 12.

Dec 27, 2019 · Gogoi was arrested on December 12 from Jorhat during the protests against the citizenship act in Assam; an NIA court sent him to 10-day custody on December 17. On Thursday, the special NIA remanded him in judicial custody for another 14 days.

Akhil Gogoi is also an active campaigner against the construction of mega-dams in the state of Assam and against land mafias. An outspoken Right to Information (RTI) activist, he has been very vocal against corruption in the public sphere.
