May 16, 2016 · The mask represents his ego. He sees himself as superior to all other people and can't stand the idea of a single flaw. The irony being that the mask actually accentuates said flaw because everyone knows why he wears it. That's Doom in a nutshell: He refuses to admit any failing, even when it's glaringly obvious to everyone else.

To an extent, I agree with you. But, if they did do mask off at times, I think they'd be real smart to use that as part of the storytelling. So as a really simple example, if the mask is on, he is exclusively Doctor Doom and all that entails. If the mask is off, it's written as a humanizing moment. Take Secret Wars 2015 as an example.
